SOPREMA was established in 1908 by Charles Geisen while seeking to develop a fully waterproof fabric that would also be flexible and easy to install. He found the solution by soaking jute fabric in hot bitumen. The result was a lightweight but strong screed that came to be known as “MAMMOUTH.®”
Today, the company operates over 50 manufacturing plants and has a presence in 90 countries across the world. The National Veterans Memorial Museum in Columbus, Ohio, is the first and only memorial for veterans of all branches and eras. Guests have the opportunity to learn individual stories and experiences shared by veterans throughout history. The museum opened in October 2018 and portrays the story through photos, letters and personal belongings of veterans. To continue to tell the story of our country’s veterans, there is an area of the museum designated for veterans to record a video and share their own piece of history.
On the outside, the National Veterans Memorial is an architectural work of art. When working on such a significant project, it was important to select a product that would protect what was held inside. A full SOPREMA system was selected to protect this building. From the SOPRALENE 180 PS 3.0 base ply adhered with COLPLY EF to the SOPRALENE Flam 180 FR GR cap sheet, the building is protected with a multiply, redundant system. In addition, a variety of SOPRANATURE products, such as SOPRANATURE Root Barrier and Filter Fabric, were used to complete the vegetated roof.
