ATLANTA — Atlas Roofing Corporation’s production on a new state-of-the-art shingle laminating line at its Ardmore, Okla. facility is on track for completion in the fourth quarter of 2021.

“We are in the first phase of construction on the project, where we are constructing the laminator for our HP42 shingles and working on all of the electrical components for it,” said Rick Stevenson, manager of Atlas Roofing’s Ardmore plant. “The second phase will be completing the test runs, which we are on schedule to begin in late October. Materials should hit the market in the first quarter of next year.”

The Ardmore plant has been operating since 1960, and asphalt shingle production technology has come a long way since then. The new laminating line now allows for a significant increase in Atlas’ overall laminate shingle capacity and creates efficiencies throughout the facility to help increase overall throughput.

“The new line is a game changer for Atlas,” said Stanley Bastek, vice president of sales and marketing for Atlas’ Shingles and Underlayments Division. “We are especially excited to be able to expand our Pinnacle Pristine line of Scotchgard Protector products. We are also anxious to explore opportunities for new product innovations at the Ardmore plant.”

The increased capacity in the Ardmore facility is a significant contribution to the manufacturer’s family of products, including its designer shingles featuring Scotchgard Protector. The new capacity in laminate shingles will allow Atlas to better serve customers across the country. Atlas will provide additional updates as the project progresses.

Garland Spotlights Fluid-Applied Roof Systems With New Brochure

CLEVELAND — The Garland Company Inc. is showcasing its growing line of fluid-applied roofing membranes with a new brochure. With the inception of Garland’s low-odor and zero-VOC membrane, LiquiTec®, the Cleveland-based manufacturer has revitalized its entire fluid-applied offering with a keen focus on sustainability.

The new Fluid-Applied Roof Systems brochure spotlights the advantages of fluid applications as well as the features and benefits of Garland’s fluid-applied membranes. The piece also addresses previous misconceptions throughout the industry by offering important distinctions between fluid-applied membranes and maintenance coatings, like: “A maintenance coating is used to extend the life of an existing roof cover. A reinforced fluid-applied membrane is defined by the NRCA as an additional roof system.” This clarifies the appeal of fluid-applied roof systems as waterproof, reinforced, and capable of doubling a roof’s service life compared to maintenance coatings.

Fluid-applied roofing systems are not new to the industry, but the ways they are improving installation and environmental consciousness are revolutionary. Garland has been in the roofing business for over 125 years, and its commitment to fluid-applied roof systems is marking a new era of sustainability for customers.

“Fluid-applied membranes are on their way to dominating the industry. Not only do these systems feature extreme waterproofing capabilities and superb ease of installation, but they also have very desirable properties when it comes to sustainability," said Garland Product Manager of Fluid-Applied Roofing Systems Ed Buczek. "Each fluid-applied system is manufactured and installed with the best interests of our customers and environment in mind.”

Garland’s fluid-applied membranes can extend the service life of a roof 20 years or more, making it a highly sustainable option. Fluid-applied membranes also reduce waste by avoiding unnecessary tear-offs and reduce energy consumption by promoting reflective surfacing. LiquiTec, which boasts a low-odor and zero-VOC composition, is a great example of Garland’s commitment to putting sustainability first. All of Garland’s fluid-applied membranes receive the Garland Greenhouse distinction for sustainable achievements in composition and/or impact once installed.

The new brochure can be a resource to many. Customers weighing cost-effective options, architects looking for unique solutions, and contractors preparing for installation can all find helpful resources and clarifications in this piece. Garland has also added an interactive version to its website, which offers additional articles, videos, and product details. Find this and Garland’s other brochures on its website.

HERNDON, Va. — Beacon announced the launch of its annual Beacon of Hope, a nationwide contest awarding deserving veterans with new roofs.

For the third year in a row, as part of Beacon’s commitment to its communities, the contest is open to all military veterans, provided they have received an honorable or general discharge. Together with local roofing companies, Beacon will deliver and facilitate roofing repair or replacement for six veteran contest winners at no cost to the recipient. Six second prize winners will receive $2,500 each to help complete necessary repairs.

Last year, people from across the country came together to cast thousands of votes for the Beacon of Hope finalists whose roofs were in dire need of repair or replacement. Upon determining the winners, Beacon took great pride in joining with community and roofing industry partners to witness the transformation of veterans’ lives as they regained confidence in the safety of their homes.

“We want to help our nation’s veterans who have given so much to our country,” said Jamie Samide, Beacon’s vice president of marketing. “The Beacon of Hope contest is just one way that we can provide support and ensure they are protected by a reliable roof. We encourage the public to honor veterans within their communities by nominating them for an opportunity to receive a new roof.”

From Aug. 16, 2021 through Sept. 17, 2021, the public can nominate a U.S. veteran at the Beacon of Hope website or submit an e-mail to beaconofhope@becn.com. Nominations must include a photo and short bio of the veteran, which includes their military branch, years of service and why the nominee is deserving of a new roof. Twelve finalists will be announced in October, and the public will have the opportunity to vote and determine the six winners.

Tnemec Launches Podcast for Contractors: Coatings Decoded

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Tnemec Company Inc. has launched a new podcast: Codings Decoded. The podcast is made for both commercial and industrial contractors and is focused on providing them with coatings tips for projects through conversations with industry leaders.

“Launching this podcast is an important step in providing our customers with all the tools they need to be successful on every job,” said Mark Thomas, vice president of marketing at Tnemec and podcast host. “We will cover a wide variety of industry-related topics that may not always be top of mind for contractors but are important considerations when thinking about coating projects.”

The podcast kicked off with the first episode, “AAMP and the Coatings Contractor,” featuring Bob Chalker, CEO of the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AAMP). In the episode, Chalker joins Thomas and Cory Brown, executive vice president of Tnemec, to discuss the merger between The Society for Protective Coatings and The National Association of Corrosion Engineers. They discuss everything from certifications to inspection status and specifications.

“Expert guests like Chalker add invaluable insights to the podcast,” said Brown. “We’re committed to discussing key topics that are of concern to contractors in a way that is both educational and entertaining, all while providing an edge to listeners who can use the information in future jobsite discussions and decisions.”

The second episode, titled “Understanding the Needs of Food and Beverage Facilties,” features Dan O’Toole, director of sales, Food, Beverage and Specialty Markets for Tnemec. In the episode, he breaks down the importance of cleanable and durable coatings in food and pharmaceutical facilities — highlighting the differences between FDA and USDA compliance and helping to designate coating types that limit maintenance, damage and mold/mildew.

“We also hope to utilize in-house experts, like O’Toole, throughout the podcast,” said Brown. “Every person at Tnemec provides tremendous value to our customers and we want to showcase our areas of strength to help contractors provide that expertise to their customers, too.”

Future episodes plan to discuss: the importance of a good brush/roller; information on spray equipment; sustainable building regulations; and much more. The first two episodes of the biweekly podcast are now available on the Tnemec website, Apple, Spotify, Google, Stitcher and TuneIn.
