A Time for Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving!

When 2020 came to an end I said, “WOW, what a year!” And, honestly, I’m feeling the same way about 2021, but we are not quite to the finish line yet.  How about you?

Changing health and safety issues, an uncertain economy and tightened supply lines are something all roofing contractors are dealing with as we close the year. Yet, even with all the craziness of what’s going on, there’s still so much to be thankful for.

"Is 2020 going to mark the end of human contact in the roofing sales and estimating fields? I doubt that. There’s still a lot of value to relationships, and face-to-face is difficult to beat, even with today’s technologies."

Ken Kelly, president of Kelly Roofing in Florida, was named the 2021 RT3 Innovator of the Year during Best of Success.

I’m thankful for the opportunity to be face-to-face with great people in the roofing industry this past September for our 17th annual Best of Success. Several of the attendees shared what they’ve been thankful for as we had the chance to network and just be together. It was also a great opportunity for us to announce the recipient of the Roofing Technology Think Tank (RT3) Innovator of the Year, and winners of our annual Commercial and Residential Roofing Contractor of the Year. It’s one of the hardest decisions each year to select these honorees considering the flood of nominations we receive each year. When the moment arrives when we make the announcement and see the shock and excitement in the eyes of the winners, we also feel the gratitude they share when we usher them to the microphone to hear what they have to say.

When I asked Doug Sutter what he’s thankful for this year, here’s what he said:

“I’m thankful that my employees, friends and family got through COVID-19 with their health. I’m also thankful for the way our leadership team at Sutter Roofing has come together and navigated the personnel and supply issues. They and our field teams have really shined in 2021.”

One thing that really stood out in what Leo shared at the podium was:

“Thank you for all of the roofing contractors in the world that have been so great to us and so awesome in this journey.”

When Kelly Roofing President Ken Kelly, the 2019 Residential Roofing Contractor of the Year winner, received the RT3 Innovator of the Year Award, here’s what he had to say:

“It’s a true honor to be recognized as RT3’s Innovator of the Year! What started 30 years ago out of necessity has helped accelerate Kelly Roofing by helping our team deliver exceptional customer service, the highest quality service, and build a legacy organization. This award is a tribute to my late father who encouraged us to continuously improve.”

It’s my hope you all have the opportunity to spend this Thanksgiving with your friends and family while you stay safe and healthy. Do you have a company Thanksgiving photo to share? Please email me at bloomj@bnpmedia.com.
