TOLEDO, Ohio — Following its decision to exit the Russian market, Owens Corning announced it has completed the sale of its operations in the country to Umatex, a Russia-based producer of carbon fiber and fiber-based items.

The transaction includes two manufacturing operations: a composites manufacturing plant in Gous-Khroustalny and an insulation manufacturing plant in Tver/Izoplit. For the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2022, net sales in Russia were approximately $85 million.

Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

“This announcement represents the final step in our process to fully exit our operations in Russia,” said Chair and CEO Brian Chambers. “I would like to thank our colleagues in Russia for their contributions to our company and customers over the years.”

In conjunction with the announcement, the company reaffirmed its guidance of modest growth in net sales and earnings for the enterprise in the fourth quarter compared with the same period in 2021.

In March 2022, Owens Corning made the decision to exit Russia through a transfer or sale of its facilities and, in April, halted all future investments in Russia. In 2021, net sales in Russia represented approximately 1% of the company’s consolidated net sales.

DALLAS — Sales Transformation Group (STG), the Tech-Enabled Coaching Platform that delivers a proven sales process for construction, trades, and building materials professionals, announced that Luke Hansen, CEO of CompanyCam, has joined its advisory board.

"With his vast roofing experience and technology acumen, having Luke join STG’s advisory board was a no-brainer," said Adam House, Sr., CRO and president of Sales Transformation Group. "As we continue to drive this space forward, we welcome the incalculable nature of Luke’s fresh perspective and go-getter approach."

With over 15 years of roofing experience, Hansen has more closely identified as a trades contractor than a tech founder. While working at his family’s roofing business, White Castle Roofing, he was constantly bridging his passions for problem-solving, technology and roofing to find new ways to innovate and streamline processes, such as introducing drones for efficiency and safety and becoming the first roofing company in the country to accept BitCoin.

After identifying another major gap in documenting job sites, Hansen set out to create his own solution, and CompanyCam was born. CompanyCam helps contractors build trust with their crews and customers through photo documentation. Started in 2015, CompanyCam now serves tens of thousands of contractors globally and has been used to document field information for over 5 million projects. They have recently closed on a $30 million investment that will be used to continue to support the product and their customers.

"Sales Transformation Group and the team behind it share my belief of innovating for the future, especially in the trades space," said Hansen. "Their ability to think outside the box to transform outdated processes is why I’m eager to join this team and see how we can continue to expand their footprint and shape the future of trades."

Roofing Corp of America Acquires WeatherShield Roofing & Sheet Metal

ATLANTA — Roofing Corp of America (RCA) announced the addition of WeatherShield Roofing & Sheet Metal of Aledo, Texas to its growing portfolio. WeatherShield represents RCA’s eighth acquisition since its inception two years ago, its fifth acquisition of 2022, and its first acquisition based in Texas.

WeatherShield Roofing & Sheet Metal was founded by Brandon Flowers in 2009 to service the Dallas/Fort Worth commercial and residential roofing markets. Through the years, the company has built a leading local position and has expanded to become one of the largest providers of emergency reroofing services for building owners navigating a large insured loss from hail, wind, rain, or fire. WeatherShield has developed a trusted service provider relationship with disaster restoration firms and large loss adjusters because of its rapid mobilization capability nationwide, and its unwavering commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

WeatherShield Roofing will operate as a stand-alone entity within Roofing Corp of America and will continue to be led by Flowers and the team that he has assembled.

“We have experienced tremendous growth over the last decade at WeatherShield," said Flowers. "I am so grateful for the dedication of our amazing team members and the loyalty of so many great clients. I am confident that both will quickly see the benefits of our affiliation with RCA.”

Randy Korach, CEO of Roofing Corp of America, said the company views the acquisition of WeatherShield Roofing as a demonstration of "the realization of our vision of becoming the Home for America’s Premier Roofing Contractor."

“We are excited to partner with Brandon and the entire WeatherShield Roofing team for continued growth in both its local position serving building owners, property managers, general contractors, and home builders in Dallas/Fort Worth and, its national position providing reroofing services in response to extreme weather or natural disasters," said Korach.

COSHOCTON, Ohio — MFM Building Products, a manufacturer of a full envelope of waterproofing and weather barrier products for the building industry, has recently finished a substantial expansion project that began in February 2021.

The thrust of the expansion project was adding 48,000 square feet to the production area and the acquisition of new production equipment to meet the rising demand for orders. MFM has been acquiring additional raw materials to ensure product availability for their customer base and the new facility now accommodates this additional inventory. The building, which was planned to be completed by the fall of 2021, was finished in June 2022 due to extended lead times for raw materials. The exterior portion of the facility was completed in November.

Other aspects of the expansion project included constructing new offices in the main headquarters building, and the addition of a new, state-of-the-art research and development laboratory for increased quality control and new product development. Once the production equipment is fully operational, the company expects to hire additional full-time employees.

"We definitely had some setbacks with the current state of the supply chain, which caused some delays in the completion date," said Tony Reis, president. "Now that we are finished, we are focused on meeting the needs of our customers and hope to be introducing several new waterproofing products to our portfolio. As an ESOP company, there is a lot of excitement among our employees as MFM continues to grow."

S-5! Receives 2022 Metal Building Manufacturers Association Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — S-5!, the original inventor of engineered and manufactured metal roof attachments, was awarded the 2022 Gold Level Industry Advocate Award for outstanding service, participation and support of the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and the 2022 MBMA Innovation Project Award.

Accepting on behalf of S-5! were CEO and Founder Rob Haddock, his sons Shawn Haddock and Dustin Haddock along with S-5!’s solar expert, Mark Gies, at the MBMA annual meeting and awards presentation on Dec. 7 in Fort Myers, Fla. S-5! was awarded for its contributions of volunteer time, expertise and advocacy of MBMA and the entire metal building industry.

Among the many companies who were presented with gold, silver and bronze awards, S-5! earned the number one spot at the gold level and was recognized for exceptional commitment to promoting and enhancing MBMA initiatives, including participation in MBMA committees, advocacy efforts to enhance the metal building systems industry, attendance at MBMA educational and promotional events and safety program participation.

“We are honored to receive these awards and to be part of such an instrumental group of industry specialists and an organization that provides much-needed resources to those who work in metal building systems,” said Rob Haddock.

S-5! was also awarded the MBMA Innovation Project Award. Gies submitted an educational awareness campaign project focused on “Metal Roofing—the Perfect Platform for Solar Installations, Associated Costs Savings & Long-Term Return-on-Investment (ROI).”

“The main benefit of this project is added growth to the overall metal construction and metal roofing industry,” said Gies. “As contractors, building owners and all project stakeholders become more aware and educated about the benefits of metal roofing as a solar PV platform and as they understand the initial costs, lifetime costs and ROI and internal rate of return (IRR), they can make better choices about utilizing metal in construction and in roofing. And MBMA member businesses will benefit from this market growth.”
