ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Roofing Alliance, celebrating 25 years as the foundation of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA), recently appointed Alison LaValley as its new executive director following the retirement of Bennett Judson.
LaValley has worked with the Roofing Alliance in development and membership for many years, through her long and established career with the NRCA for more than 30 years. Jessica Priske will continue her involvement with the Roofing Alliance in the position of directing and managing NRCA meetings.
Judson began her 40-year career with the NRCA in administration and soon moved into leading the NRCA meetings and convention department, including the annual NRCA trade show.
"Bennett’s dedication to our industry shows in many achievements that span more than 40 years of service to NRCA, with the past 17 years spent leading, serving and growing the Roofing Alliance’s philanthropic and educational initiatives," said Reid Ribble, NRCA CEO. “She will continue to work with the Roofing Alliance on special projects and programs supporting LaValley and Priske in their evolving roles.”
Judson became the executive director of the Roofing Alliance in 2003.
“Very few people know how hard Bennett worked to build the Roofing Alliance into what it is today,” said Bill Good, former CEO of the NRCA. “She has always led with grace, style and humor.”
PORTLAND, Ore. — Want to point your customers to resources for their metal roofing questions? New educational video resources focusing on the specific performance and sustainability benefits of residential metal roofing are now available for homeowners through the Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA).
Based on some of the most frequently asked questions and information requested by U.S. and Canadian homeowners, the organization launched eight separate short videos covering key topics. They include how metal roofs perform under harsh conditions, such as high winds, hail and lightning storms, wildfire, snow and ice. The videos also offer considerations and tips for incorporating a rooftop solar system, the sustainability properties of metal roofs and their care and maintenance.
Additionally, the MRA created 12 videos highlighting information covered in its Residential Metal Roofing Buyer’s Guide, a comprehensive free resource for homeowners trying to navigate the reroofing process. The new Buyer’s Guide videos cover topics such as the different options for metal coatings, what to look for in an installer, understanding the reroofing process, warranty guidance, care and maintenance and much more. The Buyer’s Guide and the new video series are available as free resources at www.metalroofing.com.
“With metal roofing booming in popularity and the increasing need for home resiliency in light of climate extremes, homeowners are seeking solid information and resources for how to make the best home improvement investments,” said Renee Ramey, MRA executive director. “These new videos cover our most requested metal roofing topics in a quick, easily digestible format.”

The Roofing Alliance has revealed seven teams of college students that will compete in its 2021-22 Construction Management Student Competition.
The Student Competition, now in its eighth year, invites students to create both a written and oral proposal for a roofing project. Five finalists will present their oral presentations at the 2022 International Roofing Expo on Feb. 2 in New Orleans, with the winners announced at the National Roofing Contractors Association’s Awards Ceremony and Cocktail Reception that same day.
The teams are:
This year’s project is the Four Points Sheraton Hotel located on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. This roofing project consists of work on approximately 18,000 square feet of five levels of roof over a structural concrete deck. Given its location, project logistics will be a huge challenge for the students to overcome, as will the safety of workers and hotel guests.
The teams submitted their written proposals in November, and the five finalists will be announced in January 2022.
The first place team will receive trophies and $5,000 L.B. Conway scholarship for the winning school. Second place receives trophies and a $2,500 Fred C. Good scholarship for the winning school. Two students will be recognized as best presenters and receive American Express gift cards.
