WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) recently named Aaron Phillips its new vice president of technical services.

Phillips will serve as ARMA’s primary technical voice, assuring that asphalt roofing is accurately, equitably and appropriately represented in all scientific and technical discussions about residential and commercial roofing applications. He will manage all of ARMA’s technical-related activities and will also serve as the association’s technical liaison to organizations involved in the development of building standards.

“Aaron has been involved with ARMA as a volunteer for more than 25 years, and we are pleased to bring him fully onboard with the association in this role,” said Reed Hitchcock, ARMA’s executive vice president. “His expertise and comprehensive knowledge related to the technical aspects of the roofing industry will make him a valuable asset to ARMA.”

CHICAGO — The Metal Construction Association (MCA) launched a new website that premieres MCA Metal University. The comprehensive online resource for architects, contractors, code officials, manufacturers and building owners is designed to increase their knowledge of metal building materials.

The new MCA website features advanced search tools, a contemporary design and access to more than 110 expert resources developed by a team of top manufacturers and technical minds in the industry. Resources include white papers, technical resources, guides, continuing education courses for AIA credit, environmental product declarations, videos, certifications and more. The vast majority of resources are free of charge.

“We are excited to introduce the new website and MCA Metal University,” said Jeff Henry, MCA executive director. “We aim to be the go-to source for all things in metal construction.”

Other features of the MCA website are enhanced search tools for finding case studies, metal building photos and a “find a supplier” tool. The events section gives users updates and registration access for the winter and summer meetings, METALCON and industry events.

The expanded photo gallery features high-quality examples of completed metal building projects and lets users perform granular searches based on market, location, and metal type. The suppliers section allows users to quickly locate reputable member companies in their area based on project type, supplier role, and material.

“MCA has long put a premium on its market development program and focused technical agenda. With the new website and MCA Metal University, MCA is reinforcing its commitment to its members and the metal construction industry,” Henry said.

2021 Sprayfoam Show Convention & Expo Rescheduled to 2022

STAFFORD, Va. — The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) announced the postponement of The Sprayfoam Show. Originally scheduled for February 2021, the alliance has moved the annual event to Feb. 28–March 3, 2022 in San Antonio.

The largest annual convention and trade show in the U.S. dedicated to Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF), The Sprayfoam Show brings together industry participants in insulation, roofing, specialty applications, and related equipment for educational sessions, an exhibits hall, the SPFA Professional Certification Program, an annual Golf Tournament, VIP events, and an entertainment-filled Close-Out Event Party.

“The Sprayfoam Show is the largest event of its kind in the U.S. and the industry’s contractors, manufacturers and stakeholders really look forward to attending each year,” said Bryan Heldreth, president of the SPFA. “Unfortunately, with so much uncertainty still surrounding COVID-19, we felt it was best to prioritize the health of our members and industry colleagues and postpone an event of this size until 2022.”

Attendees will explore the latest developments in SPF, including solutions for maximizing energy efficiency and achieving Zero Net Energy in residential and commercial building projects. The latest in high-performance insulation, roofing and specialty products and applications will be on display. Attendees will also learn about the opportunities and challenges affecting their business and the industry at-large. The event will also showcase installation best practices and provide meaningful networking opportunities with industry leaders, customers and peers.

The Sprayfoam Show 2022 will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center located in downtown San Antonio. The SPFA will provide hotel and registration information in 2021. Event speakers and sessions, as well as the full agenda, will also be provided closer to the event.

“We understand that there may be some disappointment surrounding the date change for this event; however the safety of our attendees must take precedence,” said Rick Duncan, executive director of the SPFA. “We are currently looking at options for hosting a few smaller regional events in 2021 that will keep attendee numbers at a safer and more manageable level, while giving our members the ability to meet and learn from one another.”

Boral Steel and NICHTECH Winners of MRA’s Best Residential Metal Roofing Project Competition for Q3

The Metal Roofing Alliance (MRA) selected Boral Steel® and NICHTECH as the winners of its Best Residential Metal Roofing Project competition for the third quarter of 2020.

The award-winning project features the installation of a new metal roof on a Tulsa, Okla. home that is just 10 years old. The original roof had been severely damaged by hail, which resulted in leaks and frustrating, unsuccessful attempts at roof repairs. The homeowners decided to replace the entire roof with a metal roofing option.

The material selected for the project was Boral Steel® PINE-CREST Shake stone-coated steel roofing, a lightweight solution benefiting from the strength of steel. NICHTECH, the metal roofing installer for the project, was able to use Boral’s Elevated Batten System right over the old roof to help boost energy efficiency, save on tear-off costs and prevent waste. The NICHTECH crew was able to complete the job in just four days.

“We take pride in all the projects we do, and this is a fantastic example of how using the right materials, installation methods and paying close attention to details can result in worry-free protection and performance for homeowners over the long run,” said Charles Nichols, owner of NICHTECH.

In addition to no more leaks, the homeowners maintain comfortable indoor temperatures without the need to frequently adjust the thermostat. The homeowners also can take comfort in the fact that their durable new roof can stand up extreme storms and hailstones.

“As an extremely lightweight and durable material, Boral Steel is ideally suited for roof retrofits of this kind,” said Marion Whorton, Boral Steel territory sales manager covering Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Louisiana. “And when you pair it with the Boral Elevated Batten System, the homeowners’ long-term energy savings are meaningful.”

The search is now on for MRA’s final Best Residential Metal Roofing project for 2020. Open to U.S. and Canada contractors, interested participants may upload their project photo along with a 200-word or less description for why their metal roofing project is worthy of top honors. The next quarter’s winner will be announced in December.
