CertainTeed has launched its Solstice solar solution in the U.S. market. CertainTeed developed Solstice from a roofer’s perspective, offering solutions that complement a home’s aesthetic and durability to ensure it can weather years of changing seasons and challenging conditions. Solstice Shingle seamlessly integrates with any asphalt shingles, and can produce about as much energy as conventional, rack-mounted solar panels. CertainTeed states it has a category-leading hail impact rating and offers superior performance under diffused light and shade, leading to increased energy production throughout the course of the day. The shingle can be installed directly by a roofing contractor with the assistance from an electrician.

FireTite Primer • The Garland Co.
The Garland Company announced the launch of FireTite Primer, an intumescent coating that inhibits the spread of flame and smoke on a wood substrate. The company states when exposed to flame or extreme heat, FireTite Primer swells, forming a char-barrier that protects the wood substrate, keeping it from becoming fuel for the fire. It adds a Class III Vapor Retardancy to the roofing assembly, reducing the risk of moisture accumulating in the wood and maintaining its strength. The product is touted as ready-to-use, low-odor, and can be applied via brush, roller, or spray. When applied, FireTite Primer dries in as little as 60 minutes and cures in about 24 hours. FireTite Primer is available from Garland’s 220 territory managers in the United States and Canada.

MicroGuard • Microban
Microban International expanded its portfolio of antimicrobial technologies with the introduction of MicroGuard™, a series of antifungal additives for PVC, PU, and EVA applications including foam. MicroGuard technology provides high antifungal efficacy and 24/7 built-in protection, preventing microbial degradation to extend the useful product lifetime. MicroGuard has been developed as a non-leaching antifungal agent comprised of active ingredients that are free from metals, offering an alternative to arsenic-based OBPA – a common antifungal additive – that is causing regulatory concerns due to its ability to contaminate water sources and harm aquatic life. The technology can be incorporated into outdoor PVC products including roofing membranes, tarpaulin, awnings and decking.
